I hope that you are all having a fantastic summer, and that this email finds you well and healthy. I thought it was a good time to update you on some of our upcoming chapter activities.
Major Ways and Means Projects:
As you know by now, COVID-19 has seriously impacted our major ways and means projects. Rock the Garden and Scott County Fair Beer Sales were both canceled, and The Big Taste of Fun has been drastically altered. Below you will find more information on the remaining major ways and means projects.
Trail of Terror:
We are still looking for a Chairperson for Trail of Terror. Last year we had the opportunity to exchange Frights for Funds with MidAmerica, and took them up on that opportunity. We staffed the trailers at the Trail of Terror, we dressed as clowns and had a frightfully good time. We are looking to do the same this year, especially with the loss of two of our major ways and means projects due to COVID-19. If chairing this is something that interests you, or if you have any questions, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org We will also be looking for manpower for this project for the weekend evenings in October (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). Costumes and make-up are provided, you just need to arrive wearing black or nearly black dark clothing (and enough layers to stay warm).
Big Taste of Fun:
The Big Taste of Fun has been moved to September 26th. The event will take place from 10am-4pm. The Iron Man Bicycle group will have their race, and there will be a Business Expo with Food Trucks. We will be organizing the Business Expo and selling beer at this event (complete with IDing and wristbanding). We will not be selling tickets this year, as in years past, but will have each group in charge of their own payment processes. We will need to be there for setup, starting at 7:30 am. We need to have at least 6 volunteers from 7:30am-4pm. There will be no need for tear down, aside from our membership booth. We can do this in shifts, and more information will be available as we get closer to this date.
The Renaissance Festival Beer Sales Project:
We are moving full steam ahead on this project. We are in need of volunteers, so if you are interested, you will find the sign-up portal link at the end of this paragraph. Unfortunately, due to the ever evolving nature of COVID, we are still very much in the dark on a lot of details, as they are still being worked out between MidAmerica, the State of Minnesota, the CDC, and Health Departments. We really appreciate all of your patience with us on this, and we promise to communicate more information with you as soon as we get it. I am sure that we can expect that there will be more safety precautions in place, such as masks and gloves, again, as soon as we know the exact details we will provide you with them. We still have not been given any information on camping; we are in contact with MidAmerica and will let you know as soon as we have more information. If you normally rely on having a campsite at Fest, we encourage you to try to find a backup plan, just in case they eliminate that as an option this year.
General Membership Meetings:
July 16th and August 20th we will have our annual Picnic Potluck Meetings at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Shakopee.* Come at 7pm for food and socializing, the meeting will start promptly at 7:30pm. The main entree will be provided (various grilled meats, thanks to our Grill Maestro Chris!). Please bring a side to share. You are also welcome to join the meeting via Zoom. Zoom information below:

Adopt-A-Park Cleanup Event:
This year, Shakopee Parks Department reached out to us to ask if we would be interested in adopting a park. We committed to adopting Huber Park, since it is home to our large Big Taste of Fun event! This upcoming Saturday, July 11th, at 10 am we will be meeting to clean up the park. Lunch will be provided after. It will be a great day to get together and make a positive impact on our community! If you are not feeling well, have a fever, or were recently exposed to COVID-19, we respectfully ask that you sit this one out.
Fall All State Convention:
The chapter is covering your early bird registration to Fall All State Convention, which will take place September 11th-13th at Grand Casino Mille Lacs. If you are interested please fill out the below form and email it to Lizzie by noon on July 10th at email@example.com You will need to present a good faith check to the chapter for $75, due at the July GM meeting.
The fine print (but in a legible font). We WILL NOT cash your check unless you do not attend the required events at convention. If you do not attend or fail to attend required classes/events then you FORFEIT your $75. The required class schedule will be released shortly after the convention schedule is sent out. If you cannot register by the July 10th early bird cut off, we will still register you, but you will be responsible for the amount above $75. As we always have before, we have you covered for a hotel room if you need it. If you have any questions please email firstname.lastname@example.org
State Priority Project:
If you are looking for an opportunity to get out of the house and into nature, we have partnered with the United Legacy, an organization that helps people find their missing loved ones. They are frequently looking for people to assist with searches. You can find more information about United Legacy at: https://unitedlegacy.org
You can also find more opportunities to volunteer with United Legacy in their Volunteer Group on facebook:
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this. I hope that you have a fantastic weekend! I look forward to seeing you in the future!
