JCI Shakopee BOD Meeting

Call to Order:7:32pm
  1. Call to Order @ 7:32pm.
  2. Special Guests 
  • Jorge Sanchez, NSGRA President for Beer Sales NSGRA Rodeo
    • They will give us the money for the liquor license.  They already have the necessary insurance.
    • They will have to use our liquor license & we will keep the tips.
    • They will have a meeting with the IGRA on 2/14.
    • If we deem it necessary they are willing to talk with a different chapter (Lake Elmo?) as a contact.
    • They said that they could help with manpower for our events if needed.
  • Misty Van Voorst, Shakopee Diversity Alliance
    • Events cost them about $350 for in person events ($50 is Zoom).
    • They don’t have a large income.
    • They will have a meeting next week & they will pay their special speaker $300.  Paying for training/teaching.
    • There are further events in March.  They would like $300 from JCI.
    • They had a $600 grant for 2 of their speakers in February.

  1. General Business and Reports
  • Management:
    • Liquor License
      • We filed that this past week.  They had a meeting this past Thursday.  The township approved us right away.  Last week Friday the paperwork was filed.
    • Fest Chair Interviews
      • No date set yet.  There are people interested in being part of the committee.
    • Taste Chair update
      • Anna and Mat are stepping up for the 2 events.
    • Bylaws and Policy Committee
      • We are looking at putting a committee together.  Website posts happening this week.
    • Scott County still looking for a chair
      • They are still looking for a chair.
      • M. Black is willing to be an advisor for anybody willing to step up.
      • Please reach out to Chuck Lange about potential interest.
  • Membership:
    • Incentives
      • They will let people know about incentives.
  • Community:
    • Shakopee Diversity Alliance Collaboration
      • They are trying to do a collaboration to get information out to the community.  They are doing a teaching series with a couple of speakers and are looking for financial help.
      • Motion made by Cortez to make a positive recommendation to the membership that we have $300 set aside for the Shakopee Diversity Committee Collaboration to match their donation; 2nd by Weidenhamer.  Motion carried.
    • Community Center Fitness Bingo Event
      • They put up a post for the event.  An email will be sent out to the membership.  A bingo card can be filled out when you do the fitness activities & then put into a drawing for prizes.
    • Easter Egg Hunt, March 27th 1-6pm
      • There are tables set up.  There will be areas for kids and businesses to set-up.  They are looking for 15-20 volunteers and a manpower event will be posted.
      • They are looking for a chair for this project.
    • Shakopee Parks and Rec meeting recap
      • They have paperwork for that to scan and put in the drive.  They have events scheduled for the rest of the year.  PR related things can happen too.  They are really excited to join us this year.
  • Individual Development:
    • March Lab Night: Résumé Building
      • A precursor to the ID College.  If you don’t have a resume, or need a refresher, attend this meeting.
      • Mock interviews, tips on updating your resume/creating a resume will happen during this lab night.
    • ID College: Résumés and Interviews
      • The following 3 Sundays after the March Lab Night
      • We have been approved to do it for the state level.  We are working on setting that up.  We haven’t done anything on this scale yet.
  • Public Relations:
    • Member business list idea
      • There are ideas about making a Google document to put on our page and website.  Our members can put their business information on it… create a directory.
      • Potentially more happening with this later.
    • State Mental Health Committee
      • They want more information.  A Zoom meeting was happening yesterday.  Early stages happening in MN.
    • Why You Jaycee is up
      • It is up… post on Tuesday.  Go do the post for yourself… pictures, why you do it, etc.
    • Update on board jackets
      • We don’t know when the jackets will be in.  1 week or so will be given… if they don’t have anything by a week we will go with a different company.
      • Please get hockey hoodies.
    • Board Bios
      • Bios need to be done for the website.  Do this sometime in the next week.
  • State Delegate
    • National Convention
      • It’s right around the corner… April 22nd-25th in Billings, MO.  Early registration (through February 28th) and hotel rooms are available.  If interested, join our Facebook group chat.
      • If we didn’t have the opportunity to do the fundraise could we still do the 50% refund, or could that happen after we pay in full?
        • They don’t know yet.
    • State Convention
      • It is in Bemidji this year.
      • Registration is open.  Posts on our social media page have happened.  No emails have been sent yet.  You can attend in-person or virtually.  The chapter will cover the early bird (in March) cost ($40 virtually or $85 in person).
      • If you want to attend the convention please reach out to C. Kostelecky.

9: Presidential Comments

She is honored to be working with all of us.  We are all very strong and are keeping her strong.  She is very excited and hoping to have an in-person event in the next couple of months.  She sees us, appreciates all of the work we are doing.
