Assistance Requests:

  1. General Business and Reports
  • Management:
    • Ren Fest Update
      • Going full steam ahead.  A letter will be sent out to the membership, by Tuesday May 26th, with an update on several different things including a link for working at Fest.
      • We are also taking over the soda booth by Sots.  About $600-900 profit during the entire run.
      • No plans of cancellation as of yet.  Until further notice it is still going on during the regular scheduled dates.
    • Taste Update
      • Postponed to the last weekend of September.  We will be reducing our role to be able to support other things – like Fest.
      • D. Kothenbeutel is trying to do a virtual taste and do prizes for best value meal, best tacos in town, etc.  We will be promoting on our social media.  He created a bingo card for people to complete by going to those restaurants; this would be for the general membership/community.
        • We would have sponsors for the gift cards to give out for prizes.
      • Lots of restaurants are taking this time to renovate their buildings and parking lots.
    • Search for Chairs
      • We have 2 major events that need chairs… Scott County Fair & Trail of Terror.
        • Scott County Fair (July 22nd-26th) – we sell beer for 3-4 of those days.  Good practice of pouring beer for the Renaissance Festival.
          • M. Black would like to be the chair for this event/is the chair since she is already communicating with the fair.  She wants a co-chair.  She has a PMG in progress.
        • Trail of Terror – we provide the scares.
    • Budget Conscious
      • Spending needs to be looked at.  No scalpel yet, but being conscious on the budget spending is happening.
  • Membership:
    • Zoom social
      • Seeing if anybody wants to host a Zoom social or do trainings on it.  If there are trainings happening M. Duffy would like to be let known so he can promote it on the state level.
  • Community:
    • Fringe Festival Donation
      • The festival has been cancelled for this year… announced in mid April.  They are still looking for support from the community, since the festival is their main moneymaker.
      • They are asking for a $5/current member and alumni straight donation OR $5/member or alumni to buy buttons OR $10/member or alumni to get the donation and the buttons; this donation would be to pay for buttons which can be used year-round for discounts to other shows (in MN and in the rest of the US as well)… it will help support local arts immediately and benefit our members once we can get out to enjoy shows again.
      • Questions asked
        • Did/does anybody in our chapter participate in the festival?
          • M. Duffy said that he has participated in the Fringe Festival in the past.
        • Where did we get the numbers from?
          • Cost per button: $5.
          • We can double the cost per member/alumni for the donation… they are approximately $100k short (can’t recoup their costs) because of COVID-19: $10 total.
        • How does it benefit Shakopee and our chapter?
          • If a member has a passion about it they are coming forward for a donation.
          • There are performing arts groups in Shakopee that have been involved.
      • Motion made to do the $10/member or alumni to get the donation and the buttons – 1st by Waldorf, 2nd by Kramer.  Motion carried (63% passed)
  • Adopt a Park
    • We adopted Huber Park since we use it a lot… closest to our office and downtown Shakopee.
      • We get an actual sign at one that we use and gets a lot of visual traffic.
  • Senior Grad Party
    • They reached out to us.  They are 100% that they’re not able to do it this year.  They are still looking for gifts for the grads.  Last GM meeting we talked about a $1,000 donation to them but we haven’t voted on it yet; it will be added to the GM meeting next week.
      • Motion made to support the Shakopee Senior Grad Party for $1,000 – 1st by Labovitch, 2nd by Lloyd.  Motion carried.
  • Adopt a Highway
    • We can go ahead with this as long as we do the social/physical distancing.  Originally planned for May 24th, but it is now scheduled for May 31st @ 10:00am so we could get more participation that weekend.  The location to start will be at a Holiday gas station… the address is on the Facebook Event Page for this event.
    • There is no secondary date if the event needs to be cancelled because of weather or the MN Governor putting back on the restrictions we previously had.
    • We are required to do this twice a year… once in the spring and once in the fall.
  • Individual Development:
    • ID with Paige (JCI Effective Leadership) Date TBD:
      • Paige is the National Speak-Up winner.  She will compete at the international level.
      • There are a couple of date options… virtual training.
    • World wide training. – JCI USA Facebook page
      • S. Corder has gone to many virtual meetings during this pandemic, since they are free and often.  She only needs to do 2 more trainings and then she could teach them all.  She is encouraging us to go on Facebook and look at events for other countries and other JCI organizations.
  • Public Relations:
    • Shakopee Community Sponsorships
      • Shakopee Parks and Rec are looking for us to sponsor some events… Wheelies Virtual Week, Step Up Challenge, and Water Safety Social Week.
      • They are looking for a solid relationship with us instead of just a sponsor donating money.
        • Motion to spend $300 (Gold Level) on this sponsorship – 1st by Arnold, 2nd by Kostelecky.  Friendly amendment made to spend up to $600 instead of the $300.  Motion carried.
  • State Delegate
    • State Convention
      • Video
        • JCI MN wants us to create a video bio for our chapter.  Reach out to our members and say a small bio/few words for themselves.
      • Convention is now virtual; JCI Minnesota – Events – Spring Convention.  We are requesting refunds for the registrations that we paid.
    • Giveaway
      • She is giving away a State Park vehicle pass… M. Champion won the giveaway!!

9: Presidential Comments

  •  Proud of us attending the virtual meeting because we’ve been isolated during this pandemic.

10: Adjournment @ 8:51pm – 1st by Waldorf, 2nd by Arnold.  Motion carried.

11: Creed

We believe:

That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life;

That the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations;

That economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise;

That government should be of laws rather than of men;

That earth’s great treasure lies in human personality; and

That service to humanity is the best work of life.
